Dr. Quaye is an obstetrician and gynecologist, as well as the director of medicine at the Wellness Boutique, a private OB/GYN and functional medicine practice in Hartsville, South Carolina. She has trained extensively in the practice of Functional Medicine, as a way to improve the overall health of the women who come to her for their health needs.
She was educated at the State University of New York at Oneonta, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1988. She then attended medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating in 1994. She completed her residency in 1999 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where she was also a Clinical Research Fellow in Pelvic Imaging, and has been in private practice since 1999. She has also been published in numerous books and journals, as well as being featured on Discovery Health’s television show ‘Birth Day’, in the episode, “Sickle Cell”.
In her second decade of private practice, Dr. Quaye became increasingly more aware of the impact that diet and lifestyle have had on the female hormonal system, and on health and aging in general. Her personal journey to discovering solutions to her own health challenges led her to Functional Medicine, and to founding the Wellness Boutique as an extension of her own lifestyle shift, to share the valuable information gained with her private patients in order to aid them in their journey to true health and wellness. It is a journey that started many years ago, has grown, evolved and will continue to mature and develop into the future.
In 2010, she reached a turning point when she began to attend advanced medical prapctice education and training in a discipline called Functional Medicine, which is a new approach to solving chronic health problems that have become ubiquitous in the 21st century. Functional Medicine is a field of health care deeply rooted in science, and one that deals with treating the underlying causes of ill health to prevent disease and promote vitality and wellbeing, instead of simply masking symptoms of serious diseases with a complicated cocktail of pharmaceuticals. It is highly tailored to each individual, a partnership between the doctor and the patient to achieve optimum health outcomes. Central to this philosophy is an emphasis on achieving a balanced biochemistry, using food and nutrition, as well as dietary supplements and botanical herbs. This approach provides all the tools needed to improve one’s true health, and without the side effects associated with pharmaceuticals. It is truly amazing to see one’s health start to improve under this wellness regimen.
